Continuing Care Assistant (CCA) Career Opportunities

A Continuing Care Assistant (CCA) helps with the instrumental activities of daily living to individuals of all ages, promoting health, independence, and enriching their quality of life. Qualified Continuing Care Assistants (CCAs) are in high demand in Nova Scotia. In fact, 80% of long-term care facilities are running short of necessary staffing, and this number is growing because of the aging population. Whether you aspire to provide compassionate and personal care, coordinate patient services, or even step into a leadership role in the future, our Continuing Care Assistant Certificate program will help open the right doors for you in healthcare. Once you graduate from our program, you have a few different career path options, such as:

  • Continuing Care Assistant (CCA)
  • Occupational Therapist Assistant
  • Home Support Worker
  • Personal Support Worker (PSW)

When you are enrolled in our Continuing Care Assistant Certificate program, you also join Career Academy Canada - a free career-readiness program that's designed to help you identify and map out your career goals, as well as build the skills you need to not only succeed during interviews, but land your dream job. From resume and cover letter writing to networking and interview practice, you'll get access to a variety of in-person and virtual workshops and tools that will help you build your career confidence and successfully enter into the healthcare field.

What You Will Learn During the Program

The Continuing Care Assistant Certificate program develops the skills and attributes students need to deliver respectful, person-focused care to individuals. During the program, you will attend in-person lectures to develop the academic theory and healthcare knowledge required to put your skills into practice with hands-on placements. During the program, you will participate in one skills placement and three mentorship placements in various care settings, including home care, nursing homes, acute care facilities, and other approved care settings that employ CCAs.
